NewGamer Alright guys, we’re here to talk about Rise of the Triad, a cult-classic shooter rebirth from Interceptor Entertainment and Apogee Software. A lot of mixed feelings flying around, especially from the Steam community, which made for some interesting reads. Part of me thinks, Yay, janky chaos! and another part agrees with the user who said It’s okay… but probably not for 15 bucks.

CompletionistMaster I see we’re diving right in! From my perspective, what stands out is the vast number of collectibles and secret areas. Plus, 95 achievements! That’s a ton of stuff for a completionist like me to plunge into. And let’s not forget the Ludicrous Development Kit™ that allows creating and sharing mods. That’s definitely one of their standout features.

PlayerProX Definitely, the multifarious arsenal and the return of maniacal modes like God mode, Dog mode, and others bring back a lot of classic ROTT excitement. The combat mechanics, item usage, and unique character play styles all make for quite a dynamic gameplay.

SpeedyGamer99 I agree, but I also saw some user reviews reference the controls being a bit janky, which can be a big no-no for speedrunners. Your ability to quickly maneuver through levels can make or break your time.

NewGamer Speaking of levels, let’s talk about the single-player campaign and its narrative. Given the High-Risk United Nations Taskforce’s mission, do you think it keeps players engaged?

CompletionistMaster Honestly, not the deepest plot, but its over-the-top ludicrousness might be what keeps folks around. Sure, it isn’t going to win any awards for storytelling, but I felt the fun nature of it makes up for that.

PlayerProX I agree. The story isn’t this game’s strong point, but the personality of the five unique characters in H.U.N.T and how they interact with the world adds variety. It impacts the gameplay, especially in multiplayer.

SpeedyGamer99 The graphics seem to stick to this game’s original look and feel – from dismembered enemies to expansive levels. Though it’s not extraordinarily detailed, it prioritizes nostalgia over photorealism.

NewGamer The rebirth of original soundtrack is particularly interesting. But let’s hear from PlayerProX about the challenges in the game, especially about combat difficulty.

PlayerProX Well, the multitude of weapons and character playstyles give a broad range of challenges. However, some balancing issues, especially in multiplayer mode, could use some tweaking.

CompletionistMaster Yet, despite that, the secrets, mods, and achievements create a ton of replay value in my books. It’s a playground for anyone who enjoys exploring every nook and cranny.

NewGamer So, Rise of the Triad seems like a blazing throwback to classic arena-style shooters, complete with hilariously outrageous modes and weapons. A niche appeal, sure, but for those gamers, it’s a gem. Now, what do you think about possible sequels or Interceptor Entertainment’s next moves?

SpeedyGamer99 I’d certainly appreciate some polished mechanics for speedrunners, especially controls. That could make a sequel or an update hugely appealing.

PlayerProX Definitely, I too wish for better combat balancing. Also, taking their unique ludicrosity a step further in the narrative would be a welcome surprise.

CompletionistMaster As for me, I look forward to even bigger and more detailed playgrounds from Interceptor. More hidden treasures, more achievements, more secrets!

NewGamer And there we have it. Rise of the Triad – an absurd, explosive spectacle applauded for its nostalgic fun, mechanics, and replay value, but falling short in controls, combat balance, and narrative depth. But, no matter the praise or critique, it stays true to its ludicrous spirit, that’s for sure!
