Today, we’re diving into the world of Sand Land! An action RPG developed by ILCA Inc. and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. Guys, what’s your overall impression?

I’ll go first! I must say, the world that Akira Toriyama has created is quite enticing. The standout feature for me is the vehicle customization. The ability to design and operate large varieties of mechas is quite addictive.

I loved it too, but from a speedrunner’s perspective, the exploration element is essential. The environment plays a critical role in optimizing completion times so it’s all about picking the right paths whilst integrating the game’s mechanics like controlling Beelzebub’s powers.

We’ve got some common critiques based on what the users are saying. Problems with side-scrolling events and fist fighting and chase scenes, for instance. I think these are something that the developers should take note of.

Absolutely, the perspective of users matters a lot. Now, let’s talk about the gameplay mechanics; how the game controls, item usage, etc?

For me, the integration of the environment and how you interact with it through your vehicles is what makes it interesting. The uniqueness lies in how you can build and customize your vehicles and use them to tackle different terrains.

I agree with SpeedyGamer. The player experience is enhanced by the various part combinations for vehicles – engines, weapons, suspensions. All these contribute significantly to gameplay variation.

Moving to the story and narrative, I loved being a part of Beelzebub’s journey to find the Legendary Spring. The world-building is vast and the twist of the Forest Land adds another layer to this incredible journey.

The character development is fantastic too! Their abilities, as well as their interactions, add a lot to the narrative. Beelzebub, Thief, and Sheriff Rao, each of them has a unique contribution to the story and gameplay.

What about the visual and audio aspects of the game?

Toriyama’s style is enchanting. From the arid landscape of the Sand Land to the lush forest setting. The animations are spot on and they significantly enhance the immersion.

Agreed, the artful blend of music, sound effects, and voice acting really compliments the visual experience. They’ve crafted a great atmosphere that keeps the player hooked.

In terms of challenge level, how would you guys rate it?

From a completionist point of view, the complexity of the game is just right. There is a good balance between the puzzle complexity, combat difficulty, and overall strategy.

As a speedrunner, I’d say it’s all about finding ways to optimize the game’s mechanics. The challenge is to strategize effectively while ensuring quick completion times.

Final thoughts?

For me, Sand Land is a unique blend of RPG and vehicular warfare. The game stands out with its intricate world-building and character development, setting it apart in the genre.

I agree, it’s a whimsical, nostalgia-filled adventure, with lots of secrets and branching paths. There are areas that need improvement, but overall, it presents a compelling experience.

Bandai Namco and ILCA have proven themselves time and again. Hopefully, they’ll continue to make strides and challenge the norm. I for one am excited about the future prospects of this game and potentially a sequel.

Couldn’t agree more! I’m always looking forward to new challenges, and I’m sure they won’t disappoint.

Indeed. It’s a vast, living world, and I can’t wait to see more of it!
